The Catcher and The Rye
loneliness
The Catcher In the Rye is about a young boy on the edge of having a nervous breakdown. One thing to this breakdown, is the loneliness that Holden experiences. Holden says "Anyway, it was the Saturday of the football game.I remember around three o'clock that afternoon I was standing way the hell up on top of Thomsen Hill. You could see the whole field from there, and you could see the two teams bashing each other all over the place. You could hear them all yelling." Holden tells us right away: while everyone else is off at the game, he's isolated, watching people instead of connecting with them. Guy Winch (the speaker in the video) asks us to take our emotional health as seriously as we take our physical health — and explores how to heal from common heartaches. Holden is suffering from several emotional and physical problems (that we all suffer from), but his are multiplied because he is still in the sorrow process, due to his brothers death. Holden is stuck in the denial with anger, and depression. His anger is shown in aggression and verbal attacks that cause pain. But in my opinion his emotion state is a typical teenage state because he is looking to be loved but at the same time he hates people so I would say he is a confused young man.
